What Happened Today – November 5, 2025

Our biggest challenge is to bear witness to the suffering around us.

World Central Kitchen is feeding unpaid government workers in DC as they might people in a war zone or disaster area.

The government’s partial funding for SNAP this month means that five million Americans who are food insecure will receive nothing.

Judges are ordering the government to comply with the law. One restored ASL signers to the White House after Trump disenfranchised hearing impaired people. Another ordered changes at an ICE facility in suburban Chicago where people were crowded 100+ to a cell and forced to sleep on top of each other and next to open toilets.

We’re openly calling our government authoritarian now, but we can’t be numb to this suffering. Let’s help those in our communities who need food or shelter now. Let’s also call Democratic representatives and tell them to hold fast. Yesterday’s election results show that people are understanding the emergency. Let’s not cave on insurance subsidies and create a healthcare crisis on top of everything else.

Today's Quote
Voter turnout from Republicans was not high. Not high at all. But I think part of that reason is because Republicans, for the most part, are happy with what’s happening.
