What Happened Today – November 9, 2025

Trump spent Sunday taking victory laps while Democrats folded.

He promised every American $2,000 from tariffs despite only collecting enough to cover roughly one-third of Americans. He demanded states “undo” food aid already loaded on people’s cards. Then he watched eight Senate Democrats cave to advance a shutdown deal with no guarantee on health care subsidies. Around midnight, he released pardons for 77 election conspiracists including four who pleaded guilty to crimes. We even learned Trump cut an unannounced deal with Hungary’s Viktor Orban to protect that country’s depressed currency.

But Sunday’s 60-40 vote was only procedural. The actual funding vote hasn’t happened yet. The government remains shut down. That means you can still call your senators right now and tell them not to cave.

I used to have about four controllers retire a day before the shutdown. I’m now up to 15 to 20 a day are retiring. So, it’s going to be harder for me to come back after the shutdown and have more controllers controlling the airspace. So, this is going to live on in air travel well beyond the timeframe that this government opens back up.
