The soldiers who survived one of the deadliest attacks on Americans in the Iran war just told the country that six of their own didn’t have to die.
Seventeen soldiers talked to The Washington Post about the drone strike at Port Shuaiba in Kuwait. They say their generals were briefed that the port was on an Iranian hit list, and the unit’s own security assessments recommended against putting anyone there. The soldiers went where they were ordered, and a day into the war a drone hit them.
The Army’s investigation found no fault. The general who approved it is now the number two officer for the entire region. The wounded who landed in Germany were turned away from the largest American military hospital overseas because the Army did not list them as casualties.
