What Happened Today – October 28, 2026

Two political strategists warned voters Tuesday that every network of fake accounts Meta took down this year used artificial intelligence.

Communications strategist Will Robinson and Tim Chambers, who leads Dewey Square Group’s U.S. digital practice, write that the old giveaways of a foreign operation, the poor grammar and the stock photos, are gone. No cyberattack has ever changed a vote count in the United States, but they argue that changing one isn’t the point. The target is what voters believe about the count.

They also write that foreign operators have spent a decade going after the voter directly, while the federal offices that used to guard elections against them have been dismantled or weakened. So they built a checklist. It starts with turning on two-factor authentication and ends with monitoring results past midnight on election night, because the hours when margins move and nothing is certified are when the doubt gets planted.
