Police in Springfield, Missouri, handcuffed a woman at Monday night’s city council meeting and ticketed her for a disturbance, listing the evidence as “middle finger to mayor.”
She came to speak against the city’s 41 Flock license plate cameras, but the council had just voted to shelve a review of them and cancel public comment on the subject. She raised it anyway, during comment on a housing bill. Her microphone went dead, and she kept speaking with both middle fingers in the air until police led her out.
Two days later, a prosecutor in Indianapolis charged five current and former police officers with using their department’s Flock cameras to track exes and spouses. One, an 18-year veteran, is charged with stalking women he met around town, including one from his workout class. The department caught them by checking who ran each search and why, the kind of review Springfield’s council wouldn’t let its residents talk about.
