What Happened Today – June 20, 2026

A three-time Olympian reached into the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to feel a strip of peeling paint, and Park Police led him away in handcuffs.

The paint is peeling and the water has gone swamp green, two weeks after a $14 million renovation. Donald Trump ordered the pool drained and repainted, then rushed the job for the Fourth of July. Engineers say the blue he chose likely fed the algae bloom that took over within days. None of it is sabotage, but he called it sabotage and put the National Guard around the basin.

His evidence was a chemical-attack story born on a satirical Facebook page, one that climbed through right-wing accounts until it reached his Truth Social feed late that night. Handed a fiasco with his name on it, Donald Trump’s government chose to handcuff a 67-year-old rather than blame the man who picked the paint and set the deadline.
