That was four days before Christmas. DHS claimed he rammed federal vehicles, and prosecutors stacked felony charges carrying 20 years. The case survived more than five months, until five of the six agents on the scene contradicted the official story and the Justice Department quietly dropped it this week. He is not an outlier. The government’s own watchdog reported that its largest detention camp destroyed evidence in a homicide and denied prisoners treatment for diabetes and HIV.
The same day the watchdog’s findings landed, the House voted by a margin of two to write a $70 billion check anyway, funding ICE and the Border Patrol through 2029.
