Congress sent its first Epstein contempt case to Donald Trump’s Attorney General on the day a judge warned he could be next.
Billionaire investor Leon Black paid Jeffrey Epstein more than $170 million between 2012 and 2017. He walked out of a closed-door interview with Congress in June and skipped the deposition where members planned to ask what he paid for. Every Republican and Democrat in the House asked the Justice Department to prosecute him.
Also Wednesday, a federal judge ruled Todd Blanche is still withholding files the law requires him to release. Blanche has until September 24 to turn over the FBI agents’ handwritten notes, including the interview with a woman who told agents Trump and Epstein abused her as a girl. He also has to prove that the names his department blacked out belong to victims. The billionaire’s case now lands on the desk of a man facing a contempt countdown of his own.
